Not a book by Michael Moorcock, Ledge Of Darkness is in fact the graphic-novel final volume in a trilogy of titles (mostly) by author and Savoy Books co-founder Michael Butterworth, “based on an idea by Michael Moorcock”. It was preceded by two textual novels, The Time Of The Hawklords (1976, originally credited to both Moorcock & Butterworth) and Queens Of Deliria (1977, by Butterworth), all three featuring the Hawklords, “entirely fictitious [characters] based on roles used by members of Hawkwind on stage and recorded performances”. Originally announced as a third novel to be called The Quest Of The Life Sword, subsequent years saw that morph into Ledge Of Darkness (a concurrently announced alternative title), a graphic novel with an “initial script” by Butterworth and “plot hijack and artwork” by Bob Walker. Never (initially) sold as a standalone publication, it was only available as part of a four-C.D. box set called Hawkwind: 25 Years On (see below)…
