A novella, ‘The Real Life Mr Nemwan’ first appeared in the 1966 collection, The Deep Fix (as by “James Colvin”). Its first appearance under Moorcock’s own name was this limited-edition, small-press publication. A.J. Callow’s introduction states that “The novella itself has been described by the author as being ‘copy-edited very heavily by an unknown hand.’ … Regrettably, the original manuscript was never returned”. In this form it was also collected in My Experiences In The Third World War (1980), before Moorcock was “able to piece together and clean [it] up a bit” for inclusion in Earl Aubec And Other Stories (1993). In that form, it was also later collected in My Experiences In The Third World War And Other Stories (2014).
