Cawthorn’s graphic adaptation of The Jewel in the Skull first appeared in 1978 (October 26th). It disappeared shortly thereafter, when it was discovered that the printers had misbound all copies, resulting in double-spreads on opposite sides of the same page instead of on facing pages. All were supposed to have been pulped, but it is suspected that this did not happen (at least not entirely) as misbound versions still surface on occasion to this day. A correctly bound edition came out finally in 1979 — see above — and is dated for that year, allowing it to be distinguished from its wayward predecessor…
