The Golden Barge is “The first novel [Moorcock] completed. It was in 1958 … and the book is printed here with only minor revisions of a sort a publisher might make if he had accepted a first novel”. A modified, self-contained extract had previously appeared as a short story of the same name (in New Worlds, 1965) (q.v.). As a novel The Golden Barge was collected in Earl Aubec And Other Stories (U.K., 1993, followed by a mass-paperback edition in 1997 and an American hardcover edition in 1999 for [both of] which it was further revised).
