Elric of Melniboné — proud prince of ruins, kinslayer — call him what you will. He remains, together with maybe Jerry Cornelius, Moorcock’s most enduring, if not always most endearing, character…
The Citadel Of Forgotten Myths slots — in terms of the overall saga’s internal narrative chronology — between two novellas, ‘Kings In Darkness’ and ‘The Flame Bringers’, which fall just before the final volume, Stormbringer. This is despite cover text for some editions stating that it is “Set between the first and second book in the Elric Saga”.
Internally, Book One and Book Two (of three) in Citadel… were adapted, “substantially revised”, from two (other) earlier novellas, ‘Red Pearls’ (2010) and ‘Black Petals’ (2008) respectively.
